Now we’ve all heard of high-top trainers, and we’ve been embracing wedges since the beginning of time, but have you ever tried wearing a pair of wedged trainers? This combination of two completely different shoe styles has left me in a state of confusion. I’m not quite sure whether they’re supposed to be casual or glamorous, or even whether wedges and high-tops actually make sense together.
For this reason, I decided to do a bit of investigating to see whether I could glean some information that might help me come to a conclusion about the latest offerings in the shoe department.
So where did the wedged trainer come from, I hear you ask? Well, it’s the latest offering by French designer Isabel Marant, famous for her love of the cowboy look and for setting unique styles in the fashion stakes. The wedged trainer is available in a multitude of colours, and you can choose from Velcro fasteners or laces. Another tip are the daring outfits you could incorporate, so why not go on ahead and get some disco pants!
Whilst I’m a bit unsure what to make of these shoes, the celebrities certainly aren’t wasting any time, with the likes of Kate Bosworth, Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian all eagerly snapping them up.
If you’re still undecided about the latest style-offering, here are some features worth mentioning…
- They make you look taller: Every woman who has ever worn wedges knows their amazing ability to elongate your legs, and make them look slimmer all at the same time.
- They’re very wearable: Because they’re basically trainers with heels, they’re super comfy, meaning that they’re ideal for women who lead fast-paced busy lifestyles but still want to wear heels.
- They’re versatile: Being a combination of casual trainer and stylish, more glamorous wedges means you can wear your wedged trainers with pretty much anything in your wardrobe.
- They’re comfortable: What woman in her right mind would turn down a shoe that’s comfortable and stylish at the same time? What’s more, you can be sure to dance all night long in these beauties without complaining that your feet hurt.
All of my research has only led to positive results, meaning that it looks as though the wedged trainer is a style that’s here to stay. My best friend is a total fashionista who loves to keep on top of all of the latest trends and styles, so I asked her what she thought of wedged trainers.
“I absolutely love wedged trainers – I can’t believe it’s taken the fashion industry so long to think up the idea! They’re so comfortable so I can wear them all day long and not worry about my feet being sore, and the wedged heel makes them just the right side of stylish to let me get away with wearing them to my favourite bars. I tend to wear them with more casual denim skirts rather than a suit – having said that, I wonder what my boss would make of them if I rocked up to work in a pair. Perhaps I’ll give that a try next week, and let you know how I get on.”
So what do you think of wedged trainers? Are they stylish or a big fashion no-no?

It’s fashion! But I am not so into wedges because I always slip when using them. I don’t know why. I’m more of a stiletto type. 🙂
