Almost everyone has dreamed of being a famous entertainer at one point in their life. Whether we’ve dreamed about being a famous rock singer for hire or about being a hilarious comedian making audiences of thousands of people laugh, we’ve all had our fantasies. That being said, few people actually try to pursue a full-time career in the entertainment industry, and even fewer people actually have success. If you’re one of the few that manage to experience some success in entertainment, what can you expect from it? What are the positives and negatives that you’ll experience? Here are the pros and cons of working in entertainment.
Public Eye
Being famous and well-known often sounds good in theory, but many people fail to understand the negative effects that constantly being in the public eye can have. If you’re a famous entertainer, you’ll constantly be in the public eye and will have little to no privacy at all. Even if you’re not famous as an entertainer, your job will still be extremely public and you’ll need to navigate through a reasonable amount of attention and public opinion. Some people love being the center of attention, but more introverted people may think that the spotlight and attention can be overbearing and suffocating.
Stability
One of the biggest negatives about working in the entertainment industry is the instability that stems from its work. Work is rarely stable in the entertainment industry, meaning different time periods could lead to different incomes. For example, you may have a time period where you get tons of gigs and roles and have a steady flow of income flowing in. On the other hand, there may be a time where roles and gigs are few and far in between, meaning your income dries up. Instability like this is often unattractive for many people, which is why many people opt to go with a more stable career choice.
Potential for Growth
An extremely attractive part of working in entertainment is the profession’s potential for growth and massive earnings. While earnings from being an entertainer may be unstable and come in waves, that doesn’t mean that the maximum potential for earnings isn’t extremely high. It’s no secret that big-name famous entertainers earn tons of money, often having incomes well over a million dollars. Although only a small select number of entertainers earn this massive amount of money, just having the potential to earn that much money is extremely attractive. Even entertainers that experience only a small amount of success and fame can still earn a decent amount of money, making entertainment a reasonably attractive industry for those looking to become big earners.
Meeting Big Names
Earning lots of money from entertainment is extremely attractive, but it isn’t the only positive the industry has. We all love famous entertainers, and we all have our favorite entertainers that inspire us. That being said, very few people will have the pleasure of actually meeting their entertainment idols, and most of those who do will likely only have small interactions. However, making it big in the entertainment industry can allow you to network and communicate with some of the biggest names in entertainment. If you’re successful enough, you may be able to meet and converse with your favorite musicians, actors, and comedians. Everyone loves meeting famous individuals, and there’s no industry that will allow you to do that like being in the entertainment industry does.
