The Global Finals of the Maybank GO Ahead. Challenge 2015 is coming to its exciting conclusion, as we reach the crucial final days of this year’s Challenge. 60 finalists from all across the world have been battling it out for more than a week, culminating in the Final Sales Challenge today in Bukit Bintang, KL.
Each of the 10 teams in the Global Finals have been hard at work preparing for today’s event, where they have been tasked to sell ‘happiness’ to members of the public – with each team designing and creating their business strategy for success. The teams will be judged on how much money they manage to raise, which will then be donated to a charity of their choice – in line with Maybank’s mission to Humanize Financial Services.
The teams each set up a booth around Bukit Bintang, and ‘sold’ various activities and products to members of the public, with the theme being ‘happiness’. With offerings ranging from makeover sessions to personalised magazine cover photoshoots, each team attempted to make their customers days a little happier while raising money for a good cause.
The day culminated with the teams totting up the total amount of money raised, before showcasing the charities they would be donating the funds to. The teams were judged on their concepts and the amount of money raised, with their marks being added to their scores for the week.
The Maybank GO Ahead. Challenge, which is now in its fourth year, is a multi-disciplinary talent recruitment competition open to recent graduates and final and penultimate-year students from more than 20 countries worldwide. Conceived as a way to bolster Maybank’s already strong position in South-East Asia, the Challenge will ensure that Maybank continues to attract the very best in graduate talent from the world over.
Challengers in the Global Finals have been drawn from 14 countries worldwide, including the UK and USA. A full list of Finalists can be found in Appendix A, attached. All Finalists have proved themselves the best their country has to offer in a series of qualifier stages including Campus and National Levels in their respective countries.
The Global Finals began with the Challengers taking part in an ‘Amazing Race’ around KL, followed by an obstacle course at Sepang, and an evening where teams were taught how to catch, prepare, and cook their own dinner over a campfire. The next day saw the teams embark on a surprise visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, where they spent the following three days building their ‘companies’ for the business case elements of the Challenge, as well as various charitable activities including building toilets and roads in underprivileged communities.

The Maybank GO Ahead. Challenge was inaugurated in 2012. The programme was developed wholly in-house by the Maybank Apprentices to seek for the right potential, energetic talents to be part of the organisation.
Now in its fourth year, the Challenge is open to penultimate and final-year students and recent graduates from 14 countries from across the world where Maybank has significant presence. This year, more than 23,000 applications were received from participating countries. Campus Levels were held at 27 Universities across the region, with over 1,700 Challengers in attendance at this stage.
