Coconut milk is one of the most popular and widely used ingredient in terms of cooking Filipino foods or dishes. Aside from the reason of being so tasty and yummy, not to mention its health benefits (the coconut milk), Philippines is one of the countries with large volume of coconut fruits and trees that makes coconut milk an easy to get ingredient.

Below is a simple list of Filipino foods and recipes that uses coconut milk.

FILIPINO MAIN DISHES

Adobong Manok sa Gata (Chicken Adobo With Coconut Milk)                                                   The chilies and coconut milk give this adobong manok that Bicolano touch.

Laing (Taro Leaves In Coconut Milk)
Dried taro root (dahon ng gabi) cooked with coconut milk and red chili.

Bicol Express
A stew that consists of lots of long chilies (siling labuyo), coconut milk (gata), shrimp paste, onion, pork and garlic.

Ginataang Hipon (Shrimp in Coconut Milk)
Ginataang Hipon or Shrimp in Coconut Milk is one of Pinoy’s favorite dish. Watch out the calorie and cholesterol intake though.

Pininyahang Manok (Chicken Pineapple With Coconut Milk)
Pininyahang manok is made of sweet pineapple flavor along with coconut milk thus, producing a very splendid taste.

Ginataang Langka (Unripe Jackfruit in Coconut Milk Cream)
One of the best dishes in Bicol. Two of its main ingredients are coconut milk and sili.

Ginataang Munggo (Mung Beans Cooked With Coconut Milk)
a combination of toasted munggo (mung beans) and malagkit (glutinous rice) cooked in coconut milk.

Ginataang Mais (Sweet Corn Cooked with Coconut Milk)
Ginataang Mais or Sweet Corn with Coconut Milk is one of a kind Filipino dessert recipe that is usually served as a snack or merienda.

Maja Blanca
Maja Blanca is a Filipino authentic dessert or delicacy. Maja Blanca is made from coconut milk and corn starch.

Again, this list is not complete. There are still lots of Filipino foods and recipes that uses coconut milk. I can’t list them all in here because, day after day, a new dish or recipe that uses coconut is being created and served. Meaning to say, this list is kind of endless.

  2. In the place where I grew up (Bicol), we use coconut milk in almost all of our dishes hehehe..

  6. Your post is making me hungry. I have to say my favorite is manok with gata. My lola used to cook that for me but she passed away already and I have not found a single soul who can cook it the way she did it for me. 🙁

  7. mahilig din akong magluto ng may coconut milk, my favorite to cook is ginataang monggo. I am now experimenting other recipes na may gata, and this post help me list down some of them.

  10. I would also suggest fish in coconut milk 🙂 I think I saw this served in Banana Leaf. Thai food uses coconut milk a lot 🙂

  14. We certainly have a fondness for coconut milk! I personally really like food with gata. It just makes everything so much richer and flavorful. I think it’s an ingredient that ties our cooking to our Asian roots 🙂
