How to Arrange Your Small Bathroom

How to arrange your small bathroom
There are numerous things that we can do with our small bathroom. This part of our home is usually a logistic nightmare, even if we have more space at our disposal. In case of a tiny bathroom, it becomes harder to arrange everything as there is only so much to be accomplished with so little at our disposal.

Here are some tips that will help you arrange it, maximizing functionality and creating a beautiful décor.

Being realistic

First of all, you have to come to terms with the fact that you won’t be able to place everything inside. Compromise is the most important thing when it comes to decorating your bathroom. Furthermore, it is important to realize that, due to limited space, you won’t be able to have the same functionality in a small bathroom as you would have in a bigger one. Putting on a make-up will have to be done in some other room. This will instantly reduce the number of cupboards that you need to place inside.

Most people use bathroom as a storage room. You can see baskets full of towels and stacks of paper rolls. If you have a tiny bathroom at your disposal, all of this will have to go. First thing you have to do is getting rid of all spare items and place them somewhere else (for example, in the real storage room).

Same goes with bathtub and shower. We all like having a bubble bath. The very fact that you can lay down in water and relax is amazing. It can be just the thing for you after a long work day. But, small bathrooms do not accept bathtubs. Shower is always a better option. However, for people who are willing to put bathtub experience in front of anything else, it is still possible to install one. Be warned though, it will be a big sacrifice as it will hamper you from doing anything else.

Colors

Color combinations are crucial for small bathrooms.

Before anything else, you have to realize that dark undertones will do you no good. They are great for big bathrooms making them look luxurious and prestigious but they are disastrous for their tiny counterparts. Dark nuances make space look claustrophobic. Obviously, it is something that will not work. Instead, you have to focus on light colors. White and silver can be a great starting point. However, do no limit yourself with one color. You can use one strip of white for your walls while the other can be in some other color. This will drastically improve your décor. Nevertheless, no matter what you chose, make sure that light colors are dominant. They will add luminescence to the bathroom making it appear bigger than it actually is. With that, we come to the next point on our list.

Illumination

Why did we say illumination and not lighting? Simple. Small bathroom needs a lot of light regardless of the source its coming from. Similarly to colors, light makes this space look better and wider.

Here, we have two options.

First, you start by using white light bulbs. They are much better than the yellow ones. Simply put, yellow light bulbs look cheap. Also, white ones give a bit more prestige and you can easily combine them with white/silver tiles. Make sure not to overdo it though. Some people tend to put too many bulbs which can make stay in the room unbearable. Try to find golden middle.

Second option is adding a window. Natural sunlight is amazing. It is very pleasant and it illuminates the room quite nicely. It also gives it that natural feeling. On top of it all, you can easily ventilate the space which is always a good idea when it comes to bathrooms.

Using hidden spaces

Humans are used to thinking in patterns. When we imagine something in our head, we tend to use same patterns and examples which we saw someplace else. This might work if you have a normal-sized bathroom. But, in case of a small bathroom, you have to be creative with your space.

Every part of a bathroom can be utilized in one way or another.

Upper regions can be used for placing additional shelves. You also need to maximize your corner space. For example, corners are the optimal placement for sinks, toilets and showers. This way, you will have much more room. Also, make sure to use your door for hanging towels.

As you can see, there is a lot of underutilized space which you can use efficiently.

Conclusion

Having a small bathroom is not a be-all and end-all situation. Nevertheless, with a bit of creativity, there are a lot of different things you can do to make it more functional and beautiful.

Just make sure to place only necessities inside and to be creative and everything will fall in place nicely.
