FAMOUS BANANA CAKE: Well, well, well😆 going to places and road-tripping around Malaysia is not hard! But so does looking for places to visit and try new foods and visiting Johor Bahru did not disappoint. I’ve been to Johor Bahru many times before since we were living back in Singapore years ago. Singaporeans and tourists from Singapore go to Johor Bahru whenever there’s a chance as it is only a bridge away but of course you need a passport to enter because Johor Bahru is another Country already that you’re entering.
I was surprised to find out that Johor Bahru is famous for Banana Cake! 😅 like it is possible to be really famous for something but didn’t expect it to be the banana cake. If you love bananas and it’s always on your grocery shopping lists I’m sure that you’ve baked some banana bread and banana cake way too many times in your life already and Yes! I am guilty! Haha
Banana cake is a regular in my house whenever there’s an overripe banana that we just stared at for the whole week😂 so I feel challenged and very curious! Asking myself how can it be so famous?! Why is it famous ?! And most importantly, is it really better than my banana cake or banana bread🤣 I need answers! So my friend and I drove on the way to the famous banana cake after our sumptuous dumpling lunch to see and experience it ourselves.
Passing by the place, We were both shocked at how long the queue was! Like there’s a WOW factor just driving by and looking at it. It’s impressive! This was around past 12noon. Since the queue was very long we decided to just go and check in early to our hotel. We had a quick nap and around 3pm we decided to try it again and Man! We got lucky! We came to the famous banana cake bakery at the right time! We only had that small opening time and if we have missed that, boom! The queue was long again before we left haha We got our famous banana cakes just in 5minutes! Yes we are very lucky!
One thing that I would like to suggest is, maybe using Boxes instead of the plastic containers where they put the fresh baked hot banana cake because it just melts =D + its environmentally friendly. They can use something like those carton boxes with handles, or use Paper Bags! But of course, Refuse, reuse and recycle, So If you’re buying the banana cake as well, Please don’t forget to bring your own reusable bags!! and say NO to plastic bags which I’m definitely guilty at this time. I’m not perfect either but this is just a reminder. Imagine those long queue, lots of people and each gets plastic containers and plastics bags. #justsaying…
So the time has come! We’ve been waiting all day to try this famous banana cake, and I think people are kinda exaggerating it. I think I’ve tried a lot of banana breads or banana cakes in my life and this is really good and fluffy and all that but the taste for me… is just OK normal. Nothing to be excited about. What is really exciting about trying out this famous banana cake is, you’re trying a historic family recipe that’s been cooking for centuries and people are still queue-ing in this place no matter what anyone says about it. Think of it as a museum, places like that, that stand the test of time and here we are in 2022 and they’re still here! Doing what they do best and the people’s support is just amazing.
Overall, I would recommend visiting this place for a historic family recipe that stands the test of time for centuries, if you’re looking up for a famous banana cake in Johor Bahru location. It’s a once in a lifetime experience if you’re a tourist and for us who’s lucky to come back anytime would be a nice to-go-to banana cake place if there’s not a long line of people. Otherwise, If I see a long queue of people, then I’m out and will just look for somewhere else. There’s one around the corner opposite the famous chicken chop in town that’s worth a try as well. Will check it out next time!
