The Science Centre was born in from the then National Museum of Singapore into a separate institution so that the latter could specialise in its artistic and historical collections. This idea was first mooted in 1969 by the Science Council of Singapore, and was subsequently approved by the government, who was keen to promote scientific education in the rapidly modernising country keen to tap into the technological sector.
The SCS building’s architecture was decided by an architectural design competition organised by the Science Centre Board. Raymond Woo’s entry was selected, and was thus commissioned as the architect for the project. Built at a cost of S$12 million on a 60,000 m² site in Jurong East, it was officially opened on 10 December 1977 by Dr Toh Chin Chye, who was the Minister-in-charge of the Science Centre Board.
On 7 December 2007, the Science Centre rebranded itself to be known as “Science Centre Singapore” (“SCS”). (SOURCE/CREDIT)

I wonder if we also have this kind of museum here in the Philippines.. very informative post.
Good thing they permit taking pictures inside the museum (something I look for when visiting museums). ^_^
I honestly believe our Mind Museum at BGC totally kicks this off the table 😛
LEARNING is a continuous process and this science center will greatly utilize intellectual resources of children and boost their curiosity into a higher level of understanding things around them.
What a nice initiative!
The city understands how important is learning!
What a very educational thing to do on this part of Singapore 🙂 Will include this in my list of to do’s when I visit the fine city.
i should include this place in my itenerary with my next visit in SG
I have been to Singapore a lot of times and I didnt know Science Center Singapore. Hahaha
The geek in me wants to visit this place soon!
Museum for kids. Love this. Hope we can have one in Davao.
I’ve been to this place in April 2007, but looking at those pictures, I can’t seem to remember those places. The name of the place was already Science Center Singapore at that time.
Good thing there’s mind museum here in the Philippines which is partly influenced by Singapore Science Center.
I’ve been to Singapore twice but haven’t visited this place yet, I will bring my nieces here when I bring them to Universal Studios soon =)
Sounds like a nice day tour!
good for kids of any age.. including myself! hahaha! 🙂
Your photos though has a lot of noise in it, they look grainy instead of clean.
But it adds more character.
hahaha natawa ako sa “once upon a time i was flesh and blood like you” pero creepy siya at the same time though! 😮
I’ll ask my wife to go there next week since she’ll be in Singapore. Until what time pala open ang museum?
Einstein looks very cute hihihi! I haven’t been here. Great shots!
What a fun way to introduce science to kids! Is this different from ArtScience Museum? I’ve been to that one. It was fantastic!
Wow! This looks like a really nice place to bring the kiddos. Actually, even I am very interested with science too, so I think i’ll enjoy the Science Center.. 🙂
this is what my youngest son has been telling his dad, we need to tighten up our belts to save in order for the 4 of us to fly to Singapore 🙂
I only went to the Arts and Science Museum in Singapore. The one that looks like a lotus. Is this the same thing? Ashley looked terrified of the Dinosaur. hehehehehe 😀
This seems like a fun place to take kids!
wow. love the place! di ko alam they had this. will visit it when i go to SG again by the end of July. Thanks for sharing!
Science center is really designed for kids to learn and enjoy at the same time.
I visited that specific science center during my first trip to Singapore. I’m really not a fan of such, but this one from SIN made me wandering like a little kid! 🙂
And if I may add.. when I visited this during f1 season, I super wanted to try out the water area outside the center.. it was super fun to watch the little kids playing around. 🙂
I am a fan of science and that is one of the reasons I’m gonna enjoy places like Science Center. I was able to visit this place years ago along with Snow City.
I’m not a science fan but I do enjoy experiments…heheheh! This place is good exposure for kids, though.
