Do it Yourself: Walking Tour of Fort Santiago is one of the best ways to explore the place and also as a blogger and YouTuber, DIY travel is the best so I have plenty of time to take photos and videos of each and every side of the place I wanted to! Because you know, You can never have too many photos and videos when traveling to save the memories.

This is my first time in Intramuros and Doing a Walking Tour of Fort Santiago. We didn’t really have much time that day to explore the whole walled city so we head on and decided to just go to Fort Santiago instead. Some information about me why we decided to come here is I am from Calamba, Laguna where Jose Rizal was born and to be honest, His house is where I always do my homework and group projects with my friends when I was in high school. It was only a walking distance and a stop-over after class for the students. Many Tourist Buses visit this place too!

Do it Yourself Walking Tour of Fort Santiago is easy as just walking in the park but this one has so much history in it that it will take you back in time. You can even see Jose Rizal’s footsteps around the place. It is quite spooky and mind-blowing. As a Filipino, It was such a fascinating experience to read everything about what happened in that very place. It was scary.

Fort Santiago is a citadel first built by the Spanish people. The defense fort is part of the walled city of Manila, Intramuros. This Fort is one of the most historical places in Manila that you don’t want to miss if you are staying around. Our National Hero Jose Rizal was executed here in the year 1896. Inside you will see lots of things about Jose Rizal and how everything happened back in the days. Following the footsteps of Jose Rizal, that day felt so scary.

So you guys probably realize now that This Fort was full of Spanish people who invaded The Philippines from 1521 to 1898 also known as The Spanish Colonial Period. During World War II, Fort Santiago was captured by the Japanese Imperial Army. 600 Filipino and American prisoners of war died from suffocation and hunger in the dungeons of Fort Santiago.

You can buy the Entrance Ticket is 75pesos Open 8am-9pm. When we were there, the left side near the entrance of the Fort Santiago was being renovated. Souvenirs and other things can be found inside too. If you wanna do a Do it Yourself Walking Tour of Fort Santiago it will be easy, just make sure that you check the weather too so you can walk freely around the place without getting wet and have all the time that you need.

Fort Santiago is located just next to Pasig River, also other places of interest are Intramuros, San Agustin Church, Rizal Park, National Museum of The Philippines.

It was a worth it and a good decision for us to come here for a day. Intramuros for a day will be next year! Can’t wait to visit!
