6 Things You Shouldn’t Forget When Shopping For Your Prom Dress

You may think it ages until prom, and it may feel a little silly to start thinking about your prom dress right now, but prom has a habit of sneaking up on you and it can get overwhelming. Here are a few tips to remember when shopping for your dress.

1. Start Early
The earlier you start looking for the perfect dress, the more options available to you. Many stores keep track of who buys which dress so that you don’t end up wearing the same dress and someone else to prom. You don’t want to fall in love with a dress only to realize someone else has already booked it.

2. Take Heels with You
This is important! Take a pair of heels with you when you go shopping for your dress. You can never really know the true look of a dress if you are, for instance, 5 feet and the gown is cascading all over the floor. Make sure you take either the shoes that you are going to wear to prom or at least the same height heel as you’ll want to get a fairly good idea of what you will look like on the night and whether or not your dress will need alterations. It’s the same for taller girls, without heels, the dress may seem the perfect length, but the second you add the heels, it may be too short.

3. Only Take 1 Person You Trust
When you head off to purchase cheap prom dresses for 2018 at Prom Dress Shop or any other retailers, make sure you only take one person that you trust. When you take an entourage, it becomes confusing and there will be too many opinions to deal with. After all, you want your dress to be a reflection of your style, not a mixture of a bunch of other people. Just one person will do for an honest opinion.

4. Don’t Get Hung Up on a Certain Colour or Style
Don’t go prom dress shopping with a certain color or style in mind, as you don’t know what is going to look best on you. Even if you don’t really like the way a dress looks on the rack, don’t be afraid to try it on. Pick out a few different styles to see what works for your body shape and height.

5. Do Your Hair and Makeup
Wear full makeup to go prom dress shopping. It will help you get a better idea of the overall look when you try a dress on. Plus, it helps to make you feel confident. The same goes for hair – if you plan on wearing your hair in curls or an up style for prom, do that on the day you shop for a dress. Don’t forget to take a couple of snapshots of what you look like when you try different dresses on.

6. Wear the Right Underwear
Wearing the right underwear is important. You want to be able to tell if the gown is going to look perfect so make sure you wear underwear that doesn’t bunch up or show lines. As for a bra, at least wear a strapless variety to try on dresses. If you think you will choose a dress with straps, then make sure the bra straps won’t be sticking out on prom night.
