4 Common Myths about Home Remodeling – Dubai blog

When it comes to home remodeling and renovation projects, there are quite a few myths floating around. Before you start making major changes to your home, take a closer look at these myths so you know what to expect during the process.

Renovations Always Increase a Home’s Value

While it’s true that many home renovation projects will increase the value of a home, not every upgrade you make will make your house more appealing or valuable. For example, if you choose to add something that is very specialized to your needs, such as a concert hall or a music studio, the next owner may not be as interested in that space.

Some additions also add more cost to owning the home. Examples include swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and heated floors. The renovations that tend to be the most valuable include garage door replacements, exterior veneer and siding upgrades, and updated kitchens and bathrooms.

You Don’t Need Safety Gear for Minor Jobs

No matter what type of job you’re working on, you should always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. Some equipment is more important for certain jobs, such as using a face mask if you’re sanding or doing other work that could cause you to inhale particles in the air. Make sure to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes, along with a pair of work boots that will protect your feet from anything left on the ground in the work area. Even stepping on a tool without the right footwear could cause injury and discomfort.

Permits Aren’t Always Required

Another myth in the home renovation world is that you don’t always need a permit for the work you plan to do. If you hire a contractor to do the work, he will typically find out what type of permit is required in your area and go through the process to file for approval. However, before you pick up a hammer for a DIY renovation, you need to make sure your permit has been approved by your local authority.

Some of the renovations that might surprise you with permits include demolishing a portion of or adding to a building, upgrading or replacing plumbing or electrical systems, replacing an HVAC system, and changing the sizes of doors, windows, or other openings.

You Should Add What’s Trendy Now

It’s tempting to go with the latest trends in your home renovations, but just think about how those additions might look in 30 years. At one time, homeowners thought that wood paneling was all the rage; now the owners of those homes can’t get rid of the panels fast enough. Stick with neutral materials and timeless elements that complement the style of your home when you’re doing a renovation.

Understanding these myths and why they aren’t always true can help you plan for and execute a more successful renovation project at your home. As you start the process, you can debunk the myths and ensure that your renovation goes as smoothly as possible.
